Smooth Walls - The Secret
I'm a paint on the wall man rather than a hang wallpaper kind of chap, personally i just think it is a cleaner, crisper and basically cooler look.
The previous owner of my place had covered the sitting room in a lovely woodchip paper, then overpainted it successively since the late 1960s - old people, don't you just love them!
So having steamed and scraped away for a while I found myself down to the bare wall.
This bare wall has a few trivial cracks, chips, dents and so on - so I assulted the wall with the filler, spreading it all over the place.
Now this particular tale has a sad ending - despite hours of filling, smoothing and sanding ... I reluctantly have to report that perfection is an impossible dream, but the upside is that once it's all painted it still looks mightly fine, the cracks don't show at all, but on close inspection the minor blemishes show up.
There is a solution however, if you find one of your friends with their face close up to wall checking out the smoothness of your finish, then just kick them out, believe me if they do that kind of thing they'll also have loads of other bad habits that you might not yet know about - you really don't want them as a friend anymore anyway, so it won't be any loss.
OK, so there is a solution ... but not one I took, but if you so choose it then you will get perfect walls - call in a plasterer to skim your walls. They will then be perfect, a smallish sized room should be done in a day, so not that costly.
The downside is that it is messy, so you'd be advised to empty the room out, which is generally none to practicle or even possible.
